A geography game built from my own photos
PhotoGuessr started as a simple game to show off my travels. You're shown one of my photos and have to guess where in the world it was taken. The closer your guess, the more points you score.
The game is built around my own photography, so every round is drawn from places I've actually been. (although you are free to add your own photos!) That means the locations are varied but genuine, and the difficulty ranges from "In front of the Nachtwacht" to "on a beach in Asia."
Building PhotoGuessr was a good exercise in combining two things I enjoy: photography and games. Putting photos into a game context meant thinking carefully about what makes a location recognisable, which turned out to be a surprisingly interesting design problem.
The game lives at game.dryfsant.nl — you can play it directly below.
