A curious creature with an interest in all things innovation — and the world beyond the lab.
I'm Bas, a mechanical engineering student at Eindhoven University of Technology, driven by an insatiable curiosity about how things work and why they matter.
That curiosity recently took me abroad for a research internship in Johannesburg — eleven weeks in an unfamiliar field, an unfamiliar city, and a steep learning curve I genuinely enjoyed. My engineering background gives me the technical depth to understand a problem from the inside out; the rest is a stubborn refusal to stop asking why.
Away from the desk you'll find me cooking something ambitious, framing the world through a camera lens, or exploring somewhere new. Curious people make the best problem-solvers — in engineering and everywhere in between.

A few of the moments that have shaped who I am.
Eleven weeks in a research lab at the University of the Witwatersrand — my first deep dive into a field well outside mechanical engineering, in a new city and culture. As much a lesson in adaptability and resilience as in the science itself.
Joined the editorial board of deslash.nl, a satirical news website, contributing writing and editorial judgement to a team producing sharp, humorous commentary.
Completed my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology, graduating with a strong grounding in technical analysis, design, and problem-solving.
Served a full board year at the Federation of Study Associations at TU Eindhoven: representing students, coordinating across associations, and gaining hands-on experience in governance and leadership.
Founded and ran an internal GeoGuessr tournament from scratch, managing logistics, brackets, and participant experience. A surprisingly effective exercise in event management.
